Zimlich Society

Keeping families close to each other and the care they need.

Zimlich Society

In the summer of 1992, Gray Zimlich and her 10-year-old son, Day, moved into the Ronald McDonald House of Boston where Day would undergo experimental treatment for an inoperative brain tumor. Day later described his stay at Ronald McDonald House as the “best vacation I ever had!” and asked why there wasn’t a Ronald McDonald House in Mobile. Eight years later, Day Zimlich and other dignitaries cut the ribbon on a 12 guest-room Ronald McDonald House of Mobile. In 2008, the Board of Directors, including founding board member Gray Zimlich, began raising funds to add 26 more guest rooms, and in 2011 the expanded House opened to families. Today, RMHC of Mobile houses approximately 600 families annually – keeping families close while their children receive medical care in one of our area hospitals.

Named in honor of the Zimlich family, the Zimlich Society was established to celebrate those who invest $50,000 or more over a lifetime to help ease the burdens of families with sick or injured children. These partners continue to strengthen the Zimlich legacy, wisdom, and compassion through generous support and membership in this special society.
